NHC: Tropical Depression 9 Forms

Tropical Depression Nine has formed in the southwestern Gulf, prompting close monitoring from the National Hurricane Center as forecasters track its movement and potential for further development.

According to the National Hurricane Center, the system, previously known as disturbance AL92, became a tropical depression Tuesday and is located in the southwestern Gulf. Meteorologists began issuing official advisories on the system as it organized over warm waters conducive to tropical development.

Forecasters say the depression is expected to move generally northward over the next several days. Environmental conditions could allow for additional strengthening, and residents along portions of the Gulf Coast are being urged to closely monitor updated forecasts. While it remains too early to determine specific impacts, tropical systems in the Gulf can bring heavy rain, gusty winds, coastal flooding, and rough surf well before any potential landfall.

Emergency management officials recommend reviewing hurricane preparedness plans, ensuring emergency supply kits are stocked, and staying informed through trusted weather sources. Residents are also encouraged to monitor any watches or warnings that may be issued as the forecast evolves.
