Florida Sales Tax Exemptions Begin Today

From today through the end of the month, Floridians won't be paying sales tax on clothes, shoes and accessories 100-dollars or less, certain school supplies 50-dollars or less, and computers 15-hundred dollars or less.

It's all a part of the annual Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday, which has now been made a permanent holiday every August.

The National Retail Federation put the back-to-school spending price tag at more than 850-dollars on average.

School begins in 57 of 67 Florida counties on August 11th.

The last district to go back is Miami-Dade on the 14th.

Today's not only the start of the Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday, but it's also the start of the now permanent sales tax exemption on items to top off your hurricane kit.

Things like batteries, tarps, gas cans and portable generators and carbon monoxide alarms are permanently tax free.

It's a part of the new budget Governor Ron DeSantis signed into law back in June.

Other items not necessarily disaster related but are now permanently tax free are bike helmets, sunscreen and bug spray.

No longer included are flashlights, reusable ice packs and pet supplies.
